Biodiesel – what is it?
Daka ecoMotion produces biodiesel (FAME), which is an alternative to fossil fuels in transport and industry.
Biodiesel is produced by a chemical reaction between alcohol and fats, forming fatty acid methyl esters and releasing glycerin as a by-product.
Biodiesel is currently used, among other things:
- by road transport
- in shipping
- as a component in new fuels for, amongst other things, aviation
Raw materials for production
The production is based on residual products:
- animal fat from categories 1 and 2
- used cooking oil and other oils unsuitable for food production
The composition of the raw materials requires a more advanced processing method, which ensures consistent quality and the necessary fuel properties in the finished product.
Resources are utilised to the full
Our production is characterised by high utilisation, and our by-products can be used by a range of different customers:
- crude glycerine for biogas
- biofuel oil for energy
- potassium sulphate for agriculture
- Dencerin for wastewater treatment plant
Year-round operation
The plant runs 24 hours a day, 51 weeks a year.
Once a year, a planned production shutdown is carried out, during which the entire plant is inspected, cleaned and serviced. This allows a large proportion of the technical work to be carried out as part of a single, coordinated effort.
“Operations require a great deal of effort across many different departments – from production and maintenance to the laboratory, logistics and planning. It is this collaborative effort that ensures the plant can operate reliably all year round,”
Flemming Jønsson

Certified and responsible operation
Our production facility is covered by a Chapter 5 authorisation, which sets out the framework for its operation and ensures that production complies with applicable environmental and safety requirements.
Production takes place in a closed facility with limited emissions and in accordance with specified requirements relating to, amongst other things, waste water, emissions and the safe handling of processes and materials.
The operation takes place in ongoing dialogue with the authorities.
